The ongoing bilateral series between India and Srilanka has been a one-sided affair. After clean sweeping the test series by 3-0, India has now whitewashed Srilanka in ODIs as well by winning the 5th and final match of the ongoing Micromax cup. This is India’s 8th series win against the Srilankans out of 12 played.

The 5th one-dayer between India and Srilanka was played on 3rd September and the hosts couldn’t perform in spite of a good middle order partnership between Tharanga and Mathews.

It was the same show as it has been throughout the series i.e Lankans losing wickets towards the end after getting a steady start. They put up a score of 239 on board to chase which was never going to be challenging considering the mighty batting line-up of Indians. India chased down the target quite comfortably with the help of Kohli’s 30th century. Now he is only behind Sachin Tendulkar who has 49 centuries to his name. In the bowling department, Bhubaneswar was the leading wicket-taker and M.O.M for his match-winning figures of 5/42.

The ongoing series has seen a lot of new records being made and broken, 5th ODI was no different as a few new records were broken and created. First Dhoni reached 100th stumping of his career in 301 ODIs, he is the only player to do so. Sangakkara was the previous record holder with 99 stumpings to his name. Virat Kohli equaled Ponting’s record of 30 centuries in his 187th ODI making him the fastest to do so, Ponting taking more than 300 ODIs to achieve the same feat. India became the only country to whitewash Srilanka at home as well as in India.
