The world will witness India creating history as its Moon mission Chandrayaan-2 makes a soft landing on the lunar surface at 1:55 am on Sunday. But it will be the first to launch a mission to the unexplored lunar south pole.

Joined by about 60-70 high school students from across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the ISRO centre in Bengaluru to witness live the space feat.

Ahead of the historic event, PM Modi said the mission manifests the best of Indian talent and spirit of tenacity. "Its success will benefit crores of Indians," he said in a series of tweets.

ISRO Chairman K Sivan said on Friday things are progressing as per plan for the much-awaited event. "We are eagerly waiting for the event. Everything is going according to the plan," he said.

The touch-down of 'Vikram' lander is scheduled between 1.30 am and 2.30 am on Saturday, followed by the rollout of rover 'Pragyan' between 5.30 a.m and 6.30 a.m.
