On Thursday Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nation-wide Fit India Movement at 10:30 am at Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex New Delhi. The news was announced in the latest episode of Radio programme “Man Ki Baat”.

The movement will be launched on the occasion of Swami Vivekanand’s birth anniversary, on 29th August, said, PM Modi.

“There will be goals that will be fixed for it, too. Currently, we are celebrating it as National Sports Day. this will an amazing campaign for all of us,” he said.

Pm Modi addressed the people in the event, "My wishes to you all on National Sports Day. It was on this day that India got a sports star like Major Dhyan Chand who left the world spell-bound."

Modi also said that sports has a direct connection with fitness.

"Fitness is not just a word, it is a key requirement of a healthy and happy life," he added.

Speaking about Major Dhayan Chand Singh, PM Modi said, "Major Dhyan Chand amazed the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick."

The campaign is supported by several national sports icons including World Badminton champion PV Sindhu, sprinter Hima Das along with celebrated wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik.

The nation-wide campaign aims to encourage people to inculcate physical activity and sports in their everyday lives.
