Despite facing stiff competition from Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal, John Abraham's Batla House is continuing to hold strong at the box office. The film is expected to have made around Rs 3 crore yesterday, bringing its total collection to around Rs 64 crore approx. The budget of the film itself was around Rs 49 crore.

John Abraham's Batla House collided with Akshay Kumar's Mission Mangal. Though both the films opened to average reviews, Mission Mangal raced ahead of Batla House and has made almost twice the amount, which is Rs 121.23 crore.

This isn't the first time John and Akshay have had a face-off at the box office. Last year, John's Satyameva Jayate clashed with Akshay's Gold.

After Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran, Satyameva Jayate and Romeo Akbar Walter, John Abraham's Batla House is the latest in the slew of patriotic films from the actor. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film is based on the real-life Batla House encounter in September 2008, which happened just a few days after Delhi was rocked by bomb blasts.

During this encounter between the Delhi police and alleged terrorists from the Indian Mujahideen, two terrorist suspects were killed along with an officer. John played the role of DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who received a President's Gallantry Award for his role in the shootout. Mrunal Thakur, Nora Fatehi and Ravi Kishan also feature in pivotal roles.

In an interview to Hindustan Times, John opened up on how he prepared for the role. He said, "I met and spent time with him, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who was then an ACP and now DCP. My concern was to understand not only his body language but mentally too. After the Batla House incident, the trauma he went through, the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the fact that he wanted to commit suicide, his relationship with his lovely wife, I met her too. It was nice to meet a man who is such a dichotomy in his real-life.. he is shy, soft-spoken and at the same time, has knocked out so many people! He is the most awarded police officer in the country with nine gallantry awards!"
